In all things of nature, there is something of the marvelous. β Aristotle
If you've been following my previous essays, you might think Unhabit is all about a rosy, unrealistic vision of life. But today, I invite you to explore the delicate balance between positive thinking and facing challenges. Let's distinguish optimism from avoiding problems and find harmony within ourselves.
Our lives are a continuous flow of decisions and actions. Can we isolate ourselves from all negativity and live in perpetual happiness? While we may yearn for that, true joy emerges from comparing happiness to moments of adversity. Challenges enrich our journey, giving us the opportunity to overcome and grow. As we embrace the rhythm of life's experiences, accepting them with equal zeal, a peaceful feeling of calmness and gratitude emerges. It's as if we intentionally designed each difficulty to make ourselves and our lives better.
Surrendering to what we perceive as negative experiences takes courage. It requires persistence and decisiveness, even when it contradicts conventional wisdom or our beliefs. Balancing our relationship with our own beliefs means allowing them to evolve naturally, even when the new belief seems opposite to the old one. Embrace both the crest of a wave and the depth of the seaβboth experiences hold fascination and growth.
In my own journey, I learned that unbridled moralism and an unwavering desire to be perpetually "good" were playing on the same field as my own inner demons. They were not my enemies but fragments of myself I had ignored. Recognizing and understanding these demons is crucial, for battling them can be as destructive as fighting ourselves. It's time to pause, observe these demons within, and see ourselves reflected in them.
I found balance when I stopped running. I embraced these ignored parts, inviting them into the dialogue of my personal growth. They weren't hindrances but stepping stones toward becoming my authentic self.
In future conversations, we'll dive deeper into the topic of inner demons. In a world of polarity and dualism, maintaining balance means not hiding from anything. Next, we'll explore the saving role of fear, understanding its importance in our lives. Sometimes, being horrified by ourselves can have a healing effect.
Today, we focused on balance, hoping that this topic resonates with you. Feel the leveling effect, bringing a little more balance to your life. Let it be so!
